BrootTech LLCCYBERSECURITY · CLOUD · RISK Request an Assessment
SECURITY GUIDE · 4 MIN READ

Scope first.
Assess responsibly.

A good technical assessment starts with explicit authorization and boundaries, not just scanning tools.

← All resources

  1. Define the business question

Is the objective to identify risky cloud configuration, validate selected controls, prepare for customer review, or improve detection coverage? These are different engagements.

  2. Agree the technical boundary

List the organizations, accounts, Regions, networks, assets, excluded systems and services. Identify any shared or third-party environment restrictions.

  3. Authorize methods and access

Document the permitted activities, access duration, approvers, escalation contacts, and whether any configuration changes or active testing are allowed.

  4. Plan evidence handling

Define which evidence may be collected, how it is protected, who receives the report, and when retained material should be deleted.

  5. Decide how findings will be used

Agree severity definitions, remediation ownership, reporting format, acceptance criteria and follow-up expectations.

What the initial BrootTech AWS assessment excludes

Penetration testing, exploitation, unapproved production changes, ongoing monitoring and compliance attestation. These are separate scopes.
